The Team:
President: Alison Barker
Alison moved to France in 2006 and has two young boys in école primaire. Whilst she intends that the boys will grow up in France, she is also determined that they should maintain their maternal English to take advantage of all future opportunities either here or abroad.
Treasurer: Siobhan Eady
Siobhan moved to the Civray area in February 2005 with her husband and young son, then aged three. She became involved with Accents in early 2008 through the Mothers and Toddlers group, when their daughter was just a few months old. Their son then joined the English classes as they thought it was crucial for him to be able to read and write in English as well as speak it. They believed by doing this he would then be truly bilingual. Their daughter will start classes in September this year.
Secretary: Dawn Romans
Dawn moved to France in 2010 with her husband, young daughter and bichon frise puppy. As their daughter had already learnt to read and write in English having been at school in the UK, they wanted her to maintain and further develop these skills. They believe that if their daughter is bilingually literate, this will provide her with more opportunities and choices in life.
Founder: Kathryn Dobson
Kathryn and Jon moved to France via Geneva seven years ago and joined a similar association in Ain (01). It soon became clear how vital it is to maintain children’s maternal language when growing up abroad – not just spoken but written too. On moving to Civray and speaking to other concerned parents, it became evident that there was a demand for a similar programme here and so Accents was born.
